Wincle School's MacMillan Coffee Morning
We have had a wonderful morning raising money for Macmillan Cancer. Our year six pupils manned the cake stalls, took the drinks orders and ran a number of games. Lots of delicious cakes were donated and devoured and everyone thoroughly raising an amazing £265.59 for charity. Our Head Boy opened proceedings making a speech on the playground welcoming everyone, and our Head Girl personally thanked everyone for their contributions. Well done year six! Thank you to everyone for helping us make a difference.
Heart Start course
An excellent evening was enjoyed by all on September 6th as we were treated to a course in emergency life support led by John Miller, Les Biddulph and members of the DVCFR group (including our very own Paula Prince).
John gave a short introduction, highlighting the importance of the First Responders in rural areas, particularly at present when the NHS and its ambulance services are under considerable stress. Les continued by going through various emergency situations and giving demos, along with a series of short video presentations. We were then given the opportunity to test our skills on each other and on various dummies. We were taught to remember the letters DRSABC, which stands for: D-Danger/ R-Response/ S-Shout/ A-Airway/ B-Breathing/ C-CPR. We learnt how to put someone in the recovery position and the importance of keeping the airway clear, dealing with choking in children and adults, cardiac arrests and their presentation, tackling a bleed and the significance of elevation and how to perform effective CPR (along with a demo of how to use automated external defibrillators).
At the end of the evening we were given certificates of attendance and felt more confident in dealing with emergency situations, knowing that any help or reassurance is better than none.
During our supper Suzanne covered the notices, which included the results of the recent Sutton Show entries – we did rather well!

The following evening 5 of us attended the Cloud Group meeting at New Life Church, Congleton. Our duties were to look after the Bring & Buy stall and we arrived armed with many items for sale. We raised over £80 during the evening - quite a record! The Speaker was Alison Neil who gave an amusing and informative illustration about the life of E Nesbit (author of the Railway Children), via a solo stage performance. The flower arrangement was kindly donated to Wincle WI to give to Angela Webb, recovering from her hip replacement.
Our next meeting is on October 4th when our Speaker is from Tytherington Treacle WI, talking about “How We Bared All” a charity calendar they produced a few years ago. All guests welcome – contact S Henshall on 01260 227209/J Bayley 01260 253129 for more information.
NB Following the death of Queen Elizabeth 11, the NFWI opened an online book of condolences. Wincle WI sent the following;
“On behalf of Wincle & District WI of the Cheshire Federation, I would like to express our sincere condolences to King Charles III and all The Royal Family. We thank Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for her exceptional devotion to our country and beyond, and always with humour and grace. You have been a truly inspirational lady who has earned her final rest. Rest in Peace Ma'am.”
Your Parish Needs YOU!
After 20 years in the position John Weston has resigned from the post of Wincle Parish Clerk and we are looking for new candidate to replace him.
With the Peak District National Park Authority and Cheshire East Council making procedures like planning and highway matters a direct online process for everyone to access, the Clerk’s responsibilities have now been greatly reduced. It is estimated that only 1 or 2 hours a month are required to cover the basic work needed. Anyone interested in the position however, could expand their involvement to join Parish forum groups if they were so inclined.
Local opposition to the recent proposed changes in the Cheshire East Governance review highlighted Wincle residents desire to keep the Wincle Parish Meeting, so it will be an ideal opportunity for someone new from the Parish to step into this voluntary role to maintain the Parish’s independence and voice on local matters within Cheshire East and Peak District National Park.
